Required Documents

This link will take you to the application portal. There you will be able to complete your PROMOS application after registration.

Motivation letters should generally be written in German and can only be written in English in exceptions. We recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and not using mobile devices to fill out the form for reasons of compatibility. Please refrain from submitting handwritten applications. Mozilla Firefox may not support the application form.

  • Transcript of Records

As transcript of academic records, you can submit the printout “Übersicht Noten und Punkte” from the Campus Management system. Alternatively, you can submit a transcript which has been signed by your faculty’s examination office. Graduate students must additionally submit their undergraduate degree certificate.

  • Certificate of Enrollment

You are required to submit a proof of enrollment at the FU for the period of your stay abroad.

  • Proof of Nationality

We kindly ask you to submit a copy of an identity card or passport.

Letters of recommendations can be completed by a lecturer/professor of FU Berlin using our form. Please note that language teachers or non-FU researchers are not accepted. The document, written in English or German, can be enclosed in your application or sent to us directly by your assessor.
To fill in the form, we recommend downloading the form and only then entering the rating. If the ratings are entered first and the form is saved afterwards, they are often not transmitted.

Skills of the host university’s language of instruction must be proven for the application. The DAAD language certificates that are issued by the FU Berlin’s language center can be used for this purpose. Alternatively, you can submit a TOEFL or IELTS language test. If the language of your study project deviates from the national language of the host country, please see the website with important information on language certificates.

In any case, appropriate supporting documents must be included, otherwise your application will not be considered. Language certificates should not be older than two years. Native speakers can submit their high school diploma or other proof that they have completed an academic degree in the respective language.

  • Proof of application or registration or a letter of acceptance from the host university abroad

A checklist with all the documents helps you properly assembling the application. Please use it to ensure the completion of your application and attach it to your documents.
