The Dahlem Leadership Academy (DLA) was established with the goal of supporting academic and scientific managers in fulfilling their leadership roles optimally. Good personnel management facilities day-to-day work, with positive effects on performance capacity, job satisfaction, and the work climate. It also promotes personal growth among employees and managers alike.

The DLA offers a workshop program geared specifically to the leadership skills of professors. It is open to all professors at Freie Universität Berlin. Our modular course content builds on the leadership principles of Freie Universität Berlin.

Our program includes seminars, workshops, and training sessions on the following subjects:

  • Managing personnel in an academic and research setting
  • Organizing teamwork effectively
  • Handling conflict constructively
  • Personnel selection and onboarding
  • Time and project management
  • Work-life balance

In addition, we add other content to our program on an ongoing basis based on the feedback we receive on these activities.

Our workshops are designed to be compact in terms of time (typically lasting half a day to one day). Participants are welcome to combine them according to their interests and needs to form a personal program. Groups of participants are kept small, allowing for effective and intense treatment of the specific subject. Our trainers are proven experts in their fields and are familiar with the particularities of working in an academic and research setting. Finally, our evidence-based, scholarly and research focus and ongoing evaluation of our offerings help us live up to the need for the very highest quality in continuing education for scientific and academic managers.
