International Max Planck Research School Biology and Computation (IMPRS-BAC)

25.09.2020

The IMPRS-BAC provides an education for students at the interface of molecular life sciences and computational sciences. A new round of applications including funded places within the structured doctoral program IMPRS-BAC will open in October 2020 until 3rd of January, 2021.

The new graduate program IMPRS for Biology And Computation (IMPRS-BAC) provides an education for students at the interface of molecular life sciences and computational sciences. This is based on perspective and supervision from both ends - experimental and computational - and suits students with degrees in molecular biology, biochemistry, mathematics, bioinformatics or any related areas. If you have a passion for epigenetics, bioinformatics, developmental biology, mathematics, sequence analysis, gene regulation, RNA biology, mechanobiology, protein biochemistry, stem cells and differentiation, statistics, molecular evolution or biophysics and want to work at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics or the Freie Universität Berlin - this is the program for you!

A new round of applications including funded places within the structured doctoral program IMPRS-BAC will open in October 2020 until 3rd of January, 2021.

Online Application

For your online application please prepare

  • a letter of motivation
  • an indication of the groups at IMPRS-BAC you'd like to work with
  • a formal CV
  • your certificates (you should gain your degree before October 2021)
  • two reference letters
  • a research proposal (best based on the project proposals from the faculty labs which will be available in autumn)

After the deadline, all applications will be reviewed by the coordinator and the faculty. A shortlist of applicants will be invited to the selection symposium at the MPIMG. Invitations to the symposium will be sent out by 24th of January, 2021.

Selection Symposium: The Interview Days

Invited students will come to Berlin for three days (24th - 26th of February, 2021) and present themselves and their research in a short talk. Prospective PhD students are also asked to discuss a journal article with a panel of PIs. Finally, everyone will be interviewed one-on-one by potential supervisors.

Should it not be possible to hold an in-person meeting due to the ongoing pandemic, we will move all interviews and presentations online. This decision will be made in early 2021.

Admission

If your application was successful, you can join the school between 1st of April and 1st of November.
