Application requirements for an Erasmus+ grant

• Self-organized full-time internship (at least 35 hours/week), which is related to the studies and the intended professional activity (to be proven by a detailed learning agreement and a letter of motivation).
• Minimum duration of the internship: 2 months (equivalent to 60 days)
• Maximum duration of the internship: 12 months
• Firm internship commitment at the time of application
• Confirmation by the university (signature of Learning Agreement), see also Recognition of Internship Abroad
• Enrollment at Freie Universität Berlin during the entire internship period (graduate students must be able to prove that they have successfully completed their studies at the beginning of the internship).
• For graduate internships: The application must be made within the last year of study and before exmatriculation!
• Knowledge of the national or working language
• No simultaneous funding from Erasmus and other EU funding programs

Application deadline

Applications for an Erasmus+ mobility grant must be submitted in full via online portal to the International Student Mobility Office at least two months before the start of the internship. Applications received later will not be considered.

In justified exceptional cases, for which the student is not responsible, the deadline can be deviated from. In this case, please contact erasmus-praktikum@fu-berlin.de in advance.

Retroactive funding after the start of the internship cannot be granted.

Application

Please fill out our application form in the Application Portal* and also upload the following documents there

*Applicants from the Charité are asked to fill in this form and also upload all necessary documents.

• Learning Agreement for Traineeships with all three required signatures. Please note: under "Sending Institution" a representative responsible for internships must sign as contact person. This can be: ABV coordinators, internship officers, or individual professors in the case of research internships. Representatives of the central Erasmus team cannot sign this field, as the subject reference and, if applicable, the crediting of the internship should be confirmed at this point

• If you travel by a sustainable means of transport, you have the possibility to apply for a green travel grant. Please use this template of the declaration of honor for green travel funding to do so.
• Certificate(s) of enrollment: Certificates of enrollment that are not yet available at the time of application and that refer to the time of the internship can be submitted later.
• Proof of all credits earned to date in the program: Campus Management printout or corresponding performance overview confirmed by the responsible examination office.
• Letter of motivation (in German and in the working language of the internship site of 1-2 pages in length): Please describe your motivation for choosing your internship in light of your professional background and in relation to your career aspirations: why did you decide to do an internship abroad in this company/organization? What is the connection between your studies, internship and your future career goal? Please outline how your internship will proceed: In which department(s) will you be assigned? What is the learning objective? What are your expectations of the internship and your tasks at the company?

After sending your online application, we will check it and then contact you by e-mail. Later on, at the latest with the return of the signed Grant Agreement, the following document still has to be submitted by you:

• Insurance declaration: Please make sure that you have sufficient insurance coverage before starting the internship. This does not have to be completed at the time of the application for Erasmus funding; however, you should already have informed yourself. See also Preparation of the internship.
• The insurance declaration can then be submitted later (at the latest together with the funding agreement to be signed by you - in case of acceptance).

Please note! A maximum funding period of 6 months applies from now on, with the option of an extension if funding is available.

Selection criteria

The selection is made centrally by the Erasmus+ SMP coordinator who consults with the Erasmus+ university coordination in case of doubt. The selection criteria are divided into qualitative and formal criteria.
The formal criteria are: Completeness of the documents, correctness of the information as far as verifiable, plausibility of the information, compliance with the deadlines.
The qualitative criteria are: the technical and professional motivation for the internship and the integration of the internship into the course of studies.

Please note: There is no legal entitlement to a grant under the Erasmus Internship Program. Mobility grants are awarded according to the availability of funds. Application documents that are not complete or do not formally meet the requirements, even after consultation, will not be considered for the awarding of mobility grants!

Commitment

In case of an acceptance, a compulsory language test (exceptions: Working language is equal to mother tongue or language is not available in OLS) must be taken, to which you will be manually invited by us in due course. The European Commission has made available an online language test at C1 level for the five major languages English, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch, and at B2 level for Portuguese, at A2 level for Czech and at A1 level for Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Estonian, Greek, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Finnish and Swedish. This is mandatory for all students/graduates to complete in the working language both after selection/before the start of mobility and after the end of the stay. However, it is not a selection criterion for funding in the Erasmus+ program and does not apply to native speakers. Once the participants to be funded in Erasmus+ have been selected, the language test serves as a placement test to document their current language level.
