Step 2: What does the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship entail?

The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship gives students at Freie Universität Berlin the opportunity to focus fully on their studies. With financial support from private donors and federal funds, students can direct their attention to achieving their academic goals. The program also helps build important networks between science and research, the business sector, and other cultural and social groups.

What kind of support do students receive?

Financial Support: The Deutschlandstipendium comes with a monthly stipend of 300 euros for at least two semesters. Private donors, such as businesses, foundations, alumni, or private individuals, contribute half of the amount. The German federal government pays the other 150 euros.

Non-material Support: In addition to the financial support provided by the Deutschlandstipendium at Freie Universität Berlin, scholarship recipients also benefit from a rich supporting program. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in the program as well as contact the private donor cosponsoring their scholarship.

Duration

The scholarship is meant to give recipients the chance to concentrate fully on their studies and professional training. Funding is available for at least two semesters and can be extended for up to the maximum number of semesters required to complete a specific degree program. Some exceptions are possible. Freie Universität Berlin conducts a performance review of scholarship recipients for each year they receiving funding. If students receive a positive review and the private portion of their funding is still available, then funding can be extended for another year, as long as the student has not surpassed the standard time to degree.

Chances of Receiving a Scholarship

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to provide reliable information regarding students’ chances of receiving Deutschlandstipendium scholarships because the number of applicants and the number of scholarships fluctuates each year. If your grades are good, but you feel uncertain about applying, we always recommend that you go ahead and apply anyway. The application process is much less involved than with other scholarship programs (e.g. no assessment centers or interviews are being conducted) and besides: you have nothing to lose.
